Why Use Our YouTube Tags Generator?
YouTube tags are keywords you add to a video in YouTube Studio. They give YouTube extra context about what the video is about, and they are most useful for commonly misspelled or ambiguous terms. Titles, thumbnails and descriptions still do most of the work.
Our free tag generator turns your video title or topic into a ready-to-paste list of keywords, phrases and common search variations, keeps the list within YouTube's 500 character limit, and lets you edit it before you copy it.
Promote Your YouTube Videos
After optimizing your tags, share your videos across all social platforms with CrossPostingPal. Schedule posts to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and 5+ more platforms to maximize views.

💡 YouTube Tag Best Practices
Put your main keyword first
Start with the phrase that best describes the video. It keeps the most important tag safe if you need to trim the list later.
Mix broad and specific tags
Use broad tags for reach (e.g., "cooking") and specific tags for relevance (e.g., "Italian pasta recipe").
Include misspellings strategically
Common misspellings of your keywords can capture additional search traffic.
Stay relevant - avoid tag stuffing
Only use tags that accurately describe your content. Misleading tags can violate YouTube's spam and deceptive practices policy.
Promote across platforms with CrossPostingPal
Share your videos on social media to bring in early views and engagement from the audience you already have.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do YouTube tags still matter?
A little. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery, and titles, thumbnails and descriptions matter far more. Tags are mainly useful when your topic is commonly misspelled or has several meanings, so keep them accurate and short.
How many tags should I use?
Use 5-15 relevant tags. YouTube allows up to 500 characters in total (commas included, and tags with spaces count as if wrapped in quotes), but more tags do not mean more views.
How long can a YouTube tag be?
A single tag can be up to 30 characters, so a full video title usually will not fit. Use your main keyword phrase instead, for example "italian pasta recipe".
Where do I add tags in YouTube Studio?
Open YouTube Studio, go to Content, click your video, expand "Show more" in the Details tab, and paste the tags into the Tags field as a comma-separated list.
What is the difference between tags and hashtags?
Tags are hidden keywords that only you see in YouTube Studio. Hashtags are clickable #words in your title or description that appear on the watch page. Use our Hashtag Generator to find hashtags.
Can I use the same tags for every video?
Avoid it. Tags should describe each video, so copying one set across unrelated videos adds no value and can look like spam.
